Can AI Search Read Your Site?

Scored from your page in code, with the evidence under every finding. Access, parseability, chunkability, extractability, and whether a lifted passage would name you. Nothing here is a measurement of what any AI system does with your content.

How It Works

01

Read your page properly

We fetch your page and parse the whole document (headings, links, lists and structured data), then follow your About and blog links. No login needed.

02

Score it in code

Retrievable covers access, parseability, chunkability and extractability. Citable covers six attribution signals. Every finding carries the evidence it was scored from.

03

Get a prioritized fix list

See which factors are weak and why, with the exact text or markup we found. Anything we could not verify is labelled, not guessed at.

What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring your website so that AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity can read it, lift answers from it and attribute those answers to you. As more search behavior shifts to AI-generated answers, being usable in those answers matters as much as ranking in the links below them.

Retrieval has prerequisites. A page an engine cannot fetch is not a candidate at all. Past that, a page with no self-contained passage has nothing clean to lift, and a lifted passage with no attribution anchor names nobody. Those are structural conditions on your page, and they are what Byline checks.

What happens after that is model behaviour, and it is not observable from your HTML. Byline does not estimate it.

How is the GEO score calculated?

Retrievable is scored out of 100 in four groups: Access 30, Parseability 25, Chunkability 25 and Extractability 20. Each group is made of checks with fixed points, every check prints its threshold beside what it found, and a check that cannot be assessed is left out of the total rather than scored as zero.

How is Citable decided?

Citable is a band, not a number: Strong, Adequate, Weak or Absent. It comes from six attribution signals, such as named authorship and original evidence, because there is no honest arithmetic that turns a named author into points. The six signals:

  • Named authorship
  • Entity resolution
  • Brand-claim proximity
  • Original evidence
  • Proprietary terms
  • Freshness and provenance

What does the GEO Analyzer not tell you?

It does not tell you whether any AI system cites you or how often. Nobody outside OpenAI, Google or Perplexity can measure that from your HTML. A higher score means fewer structural obstacles to being read and quoted; it is not a prediction of citations.

The same engine has been run on the homepages of eight SEO agencies; what it found, and the errors in our own engine those runs exposed, are on the Byline homepage.
